Purpose: This website is operated for educational and research purposes — to let groups observe patterns in their own moral judgment during class. It is descriptive, not prescriptive: it does not tell anyone which answer is correct.

Disclaimer: Despite careful content control, we assume no liability for the content of external links. The operators of linked pages are solely responsible for their content.

Privacy Policy (Data Protection)

Data controller

The controller within the meaning of Art. 4(7) GDPR is Urs Mueller, Gotenstr. 21, 10829 Berlin, Germany, info@moral-mirror.org.

Participants are anonymous

We do not collect any directly identifying information from participants. In particular, we do not ask for:

  • your name
  • your email address
  • any account or login

What we collect

  • Your answers to the activity's questions.
  • Optional demographics — only the fields you voluntarily choose to answer (you may skip them entirely).
  • A class code — to attach your responses to the correct session, not to you.
  • An anonymous session token stored in a cookie, so your answers within one session hang together. It contains no identity.

For educators

  • Email address — for backoffice sign-in.
  • Password — stored only as a bcrypt hash (cannot be reversed).
  • Login attempts — briefly tracked to prevent brute-force attacks.

How results are shown

Results are presented as group aggregates. Breakdowns by a demographic are shown only when at least 5 participants stand behind that group, so no individual can be singled out. Randomly-assigned condition splits may be shown at any size, because the condition is assigned by chance and is not a personal attribute.

Cross-session benchmarks

Anonymized, aggregated answers may contribute to cross-session benchmarks. These are a convenience sample of classes and programs — not a representative sample of any population — and are always labelled as such.

Legal basis & hosting

Processing rests on GDPR Article 6(1)(f) (legitimate interest in education and research). Data is stored on servers in Germany, transmitted over HTTPS, and never sold or shared with third parties for marketing.

Retention

Raw responses are retained while a session is active and then aggregated/anonymized on a schedule; aggregate figures may be retained for benchmarking after raw rows are purged.

Your rights under GDPR

You have the right to access, correction, deletion, portability, objection, and restriction. Because participation is anonymous we usually cannot link a response back to you; for general data-protection inquiries contact info@moral-mirror.org. You may also lodge a complaint with your data-protection authority (in Germany, your Landesdatenschutzbehörde).

Cookie Policy

This website uses only essential cookies required for basic functionality:

  • Anonymous session cookie — keeps a participant's answers together within one session. Contains no identity.
  • Educator authentication cookie — keeps signed-in educators logged into the backoffice.
  • Security cookie (CSRF) — protects forms against cross-site attacks.

We use no analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies, and share no data with third parties for marketing. Because only strictly-necessary cookies are used, no consent banner is required under GDPR Article 6(1)(f).

Terms of Use

Permitted use

  • This tool is for educational and research purposes.
  • Participation is voluntary and anonymous.
  • Educators must use the backoffice responsibly and respect participant anonymity.
  • Misuse (spam, harassment, attempts to de-anonymize or disrupt the service) is prohibited.

No warranty

The service is provided "as is" for classroom demonstration. Results are illustrative, not a formal experiment, and should not be relied upon as scientific measurement.
